Candle Safety

Warning – Failure to follow the safety instructions could result in fire, hazard or injury.

Never leave burning candle unattended. Keep your candle out of the reach of children and pets. Place candle on a level, stable, heat resistant surface. Keep away from drafts and curtains. Never burn on or near anything that can catch fire. Candle jar will become hot during use – do not touch.

Crystals are a choking hazard. Keep away from children and do not put in your mouth.

Remove large crystal from candle before burning. You can gently scoop it out with a spoon and rinse crystal in warm soapy water.

Extinguish candle flame carefully using a candle snuffer or by blowing gently. Never use wooden lid to extinguish candle flame.

Place wooden lid on candle when not in use to help prevent foreign objects landing on your candle.

Trim wick to 5-7mm before lighting. Keep candle free from foreign objects including matches and wick trimmings. Do not burn for more than 4hrs.

Your candle will be completely burnt with approx. 6mm of residual wax. At this point, you can clean candle jar with warm soapy water and repurpose as storage container.

How To Get The Most From Your Candle

Safety first – Always follow our safety guidelines above and keep your candle out of reach of children and pets, and away from draughts and curtains etc.

Commit to your candle – Burn your candle for a minimum of 2 hours each time you light it. You need to let the wax melt all the way to the edge of the jar at an even depth across the top before you blow it out. This is especially important the first few times you burn your candle as you will create a wax memory which the candle will follow on future burns. Do not burn for more than 4 hours at time.

Tidy your wick and wax – Keep your wick about 5-7mm in length. Trim your wick before every burn. If your candle begins to ‘smoke’ it is a sign that your wick needs trimming. Also, if you notice a black ball (this is a build up of carbon) forming on the top of your wick, this is a sign the wick needs a tidy. We recommend you use wick trimming scissors. Be careful not to trim your wick too short as this can cause ‘tunnelling’. If your candle is burning unevenly don’t trim the wick and give some longer burns (3-4hrs) to allow the built up wax to melt.  Once extinguished, you can also use a spoon to gently push the soft wax down into the melt pool, taking care not to drown the wick. Allow candle to completely set before trimming the wick and relighting. Keep your wax pool clean – no half burned matches or wick trimmings please.

Crystal keepsake – Your Crystl candle is embedded with a lovingly placed crystal stone for you to remove and hold onto as a special keepsake. We recommend removing the large crystal prior to burning, to give an even burn to your candle. You can leave the small crystals as they will sink into the wax. Each candle will burn differently as the crystals move around in the softening wax. If you notice the crystals are preventing an even candle burn you may choose to remove carefully when the wax is soft, after you have extinguished the flame. Alternatively, any crystals you choose to leave in the candle will sink down into the wax and when your candle is finished you can remove and clean by washing with warm soapy water.

Soy wax is natural and may have imperfections – Although we use a high quality soy wax at Crystl, changes in temperature may cause ‘frosting’. This is where the wax can look cloudy in parts or pulls away slightly from the  glass container and looks like a wet spot. This is a perfectly normal reaction of soy caused by temperature changes and will not affect the burning or quality of your candle at all.

Repurposing Your Candles

Is your candle finished and you’re not sure what to do with the empty jar?

To clean – Remove any crystals, wash the jar with warm soapy water and gently peel the wick holder off the inside of the jar. Crystals can also be washed in warm water and kept somewhere special. I like to put mine in the top of my indoor plant pots and I know some people keep them in their handbags as a special keepsake.

Aside from returning it for a half price refill here are some other suggestions for repurposing your candle jar.

  • Remove the lid and use to hold toothbrushes in the bathroom or pens in the office.
  • Use as a storage container in your kitchen, office or bathroom.
  • Remove the lid and use as a plant holder (small succulents are ideal).
  • Keep to use as a loose change jar.
  • Use to keep all your crystals or other treasures safe.
  • Remove the lid and place a tealight candle inside.
  • Create a ‘kindness jar’

How to Use Diffusers

Carefully remove the cap with a small spoon or other blunt utensil, by levering up, then twisting & pulling. Insert the  reeds into the decorative bottle and fan them out to display attractively.

Leave the reeds to soak until the diffuser oil has saturated them (preferably overnight) Take the reeds out, flip them over & place back into the bottle to allow the oil to diffuse through the entire length of the reed.

Please note: Allow 1-2 days for the scent to be effectively absorbed by the reeds for optimum performance. The perfume will naturally mellow over time. To adjust & renew the intensity of fragrance diffused, simply flip all or some of the reeds as needed. (For a more subtle fragrance use 5-6 reeds, or 7-8 reeds for greater fragrance intensity.) We recommend flipping the reeds once or twice a week.

Fragrance diffuses for 4-6 months from opening, depending on air conditions & the frequency that the reeds are turned. For greater longevity, keep away from draughts, heat or direct sunlight.

Please note that the rate of evaporation & the colour of the oils in each bottle may vary due to different scents or climate conditions.

Warning: Handle with care. Avoid heat or an open flame. Keep out of reach of children and pets. For external use only. Do not ingest. Keep away from food and drink. Avoid contact with the eyes and skin. Wash hands after contact. If irritation occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.

Contents of the bottle may stain surfaces if spilt. Only place the bottle on a tested, stain resistant surface. We recommend the bottle is placed on a coaster or flat, non porous plate to avoid any staining or damage to furniture or surfaces. Keep away from fabric, furniture, bench tops, varnished & wooden surfaces. Spills should be cleaned up immediately to avoid staining.
